STOP #2 - Jackson Alley The first and last stop for depository publications is Jackson Alley. This is where publications are received and where shipment boxes are sent out to depository libraries. After the printing is complete, LPS receives its "cut" - the 360 copies ordered. This bulk stock arrives in the Depository Receiving Section on the ground floor. Incoming materials are counted individually. However, if a shipment exceeds 5 pallets, those materials are not counted individually because it is too time consuming and there is not enough staff to perform this function. Usually, these larger shipments are sampled and weighed, giving LPS a "ball park estimate" as to the number of publications we actually received. Each day the Depository Receiving area receives about 35-50 new publications in quantities generally sufficient to distribute to all depository libraries that select the related item numbers.
